It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Zofia at the age of 83 years.
Sophie was born in Piorkow, Poland. She lost her Mother, Lucina Dziarmaga, as a very young little girl. Her Father was taken away during WWII to a German labor camp and she had no idea what happened to him until she was in her 60’s. She was raised by her grandparents and then her uncle and aunt. She attended nursing school in residence in Ostrowiec, Poland, while crocheting and cleaning houses for extra money. She graduated as a Registered Nurse which was no easy feat given her circumstances.
She was married and came to Toronto, Canada, in the late 50’s. Zosia was a very hard worker and studied English while working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto in order to obtain recognition in her profession. She moved with her husband and 2 children to Oakhill Drive in Brantford, Ontario, in about 1964. Here she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and then Brantford General where she ended her career on SP2. She loved being a nurse and was very respected by her co-workers. Her patients loved her.
Sophie enjoyed dancing and attended or hosted many social events in her lifetime. Always laughing and cooking/baking up a storm with her many friends and family. Her favorite pastime was sewing and she liked to create a new dress for almost every occasion. Her generosity was huge and she helped too many people to mention. She enjoyed doing things for others and always somehow made the time to be there when needed. Being a nurse suited her.
In 1987, Zosia moved to Edmonton, Alberta, to be with her children and grandson. She became very involved with the Polonia in Edmonton and quickly got to know many wonderful people.
She led a full life and was satisfied and tired at the end.
Zosia will forever be remembered by her children John (Janus) and Diane (Danusia), her grandchildren Krzysztof(Judy), Sam, Carl, Oliver and Kaleb, her great grandchildren Isabelle, Lukas, Tomas and Monika, her brother, Jozef Dziarmaga, and numerous other family members and friends in Canada and Poland.
A Funeral Mass for Sophie will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Church, 11485 – 106 St. Edmonton, AB. To join the Mass online a link will be created at www.hrp.ca (live broadcast). Cremation has taken place and interment will follow on a later date in Piorkow, Poland. Sophie’s wish all her life was to have her ashes placed with her Mother’s tombstone.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the wonderful people who were a part of her life and who cared so much for her.
We will all miss her dearly. Rest in Peace.

Dobry Jezu, a nasz Panie,

Gdzie królują wszyscy Święci.
Gdzie królują z Tobą, Panem,
Aż na wieki wieków. Amen.
