Born – Cisternino, Brindisi, Italy
May 11, 2022- Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend on May 11, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
He was born in Cisternino, Brindisi, Italy where he was raised with his 8 siblings. Angelo spent his childhood helping work on the family farm and in his early twenties moved to Belgium where he worked in the mines. In 1952, he immigrated to Canada, ending up in northern Alberta cutting trees. For 41 years he worked at Sealy Western Mattress Company, retiring in 1992. He was married in 1956 to Anna, with whom he recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. In 1957, they bought the family house in north Edmonton where they raised their two children Natale and Demi. Angelo enjoyed working in his garden, making wine, picking mushrooms and fishing. With such a large Italian family, getting together at the lake, spending time with friends, gathering for Christmas, New Years and Easter as well as countless baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, and birthdays were always a highlight for Angelo. One of his joys in later life was the precious time he had with his grandchildren.
Angelo is survived by his wife Anna (nee Panaro) Zaccaria; his children: Natale (Brenda) and Demi; along with his grandchildren: Brett, Staci, Jonah, Natasha and Marina.
He was predeceased by his parents: Vitantonia Derrico and Natale Zaccaria; his siblings: Quirico, Oronzo, Laura, Martino, Angelina and Leonarda.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, in memory of Angelo.
A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, May 30 at 7:00 pm in Santa Goretti Parish followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 31 at 10:00 am.
