It is with great sadness the family of Orest Yusypchuk announces his passing on September 12, 2022, at the age of 84.

Orest was born December 30, 1937, in Edmonton to John and Olga Yusypchuk. His mother was a great influence for both Church and the Ukrainian Community. He belonged to St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral where he not only served in church but also belonged to the junior and senior CYMK organization. Orest loved to dance, whether it was at weddings or special dances. He first performed in a dance concert with Ukrainian dance master Vasyl Avramenko, and shortly after that became one of Shumka’s first members. He continued to show support for Shumka with his generous donations to the company. Shortly after a dance accident which enabled him to perform, he joined the Dnipro Choir, where he sang for 48 years. Orest loved to sing! With a beautiful bass voice, one always heard him singing around a table or at special events. He joined the church choir as well as the Ukrainian Men’s Choir where he sang until just a short time ago. Orest provided generous support to many charitable organizations and was on many Boards of Directors.

Orest started his 40+ year career at Sears Canada as a stock boy and worked his way up to Regional Manager. He was highly regarded in his many years with the company and after retiring was still part of the Alumni group in Edmonton.

Orest loved being outside gardening. He had a green thumb when it came to making anything grow. He prided himself on his beautiful flowers and always enjoyed showing them to whoever came by.

Orest was an outgoing, funny, and kind gentleman. He always wanted to make everyone laugh with his humor. He will be missed by all that knew him and the memories that he made will be cherished forever.

Orest is preceded by his partner Carol Burts and brother in-law Yurko Foty. He is survived by his sister, Lesya; children, Larysa, Paul (Corrie), Natalka (Volodymyr), stepdaughter Susie; his grandchildren, David, Lukian, Andrew, Matthew, Nicolas, Michael, step-grandchildren Emerson, Destiny Diaz, Autumn & Faith Burts; Nieces, Tanya, Ksenya (Yaroslav), Nadya (Yakym); great-niece & nephew, Solomia. I’m so sorry to hear of Orest’s passing. I always enjoyed visiting Edmonton Kingsway Sears when I would enjoy an evening out with Orest for dinner at his favourite little Ukrainian restaurant, where he would join with the wait staff to sing Ukrainian songs. R.I.P. Orest.
