VANNER William Ewart
November 22, 1921-March 24, 2016
Dad peacefully passed away on March 24, 2016 at the age of 94 years.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Sally Ryan; beloved son-in-law, Pat Ryan; cherished grandchildren, Bailey Taylor (Matt) and Dylan Ryan (Terissa Wilson); and the light of his life, great-granddaughter, Arianna. He is also survived by his dearly loved brother, Albert. Dad would want to say a special goodbye to his niece, Shirley Jones (Spencer) who treated him to many fine lunches over the years. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaretta (Tetta) and his son, Jim, both in 1986.
Bill was born in Calgary. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and served until 1946. Upon his return from WW2, he moved to Edmonton, where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the U of A. One of his greatest joys while at the U of A was singing in the University Mixed Chorus.
Dad’s main focus in life was ensuring the happiness and well-being of his children, and, in later years, his grandchildren. Dad didn’t ever have a bad word to say about anyone. He had a lifelong love of learning, and enjoyed discussions about anything and everything. This brilliant man gently shared his knowledge of the world and its workings.
Dad, thank you for taking such wonderful care of us. In your final years, we were honoured to take care of you.
To respect Dad’s wishes, a private cremation and burial will take place, however, carrying out an act of kindness in his memory would be a fitting farewell to this kind and gentle man.
Good night Dad – sleep well.
