William “Bob” Mayhew

-

Born June 10, 1935 in Duffield, Alberta. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Lilly Mayhew of 55 years, son Bart (Brigitte) also of Drayton Valley and his three cherished granddaughters, (the lights of his life) – Ashlyn, Haley and Terin as well as many, many friends. Bob was born and raised in the Keephills farm area and always loved the farm life, running the equipment, harvesting the land and being around the animals.

Bob came to Drayton Valley in 1954 at the beginning of the oil boom and started working at the Imperial Oil Bulk Station. He then worked for Mobil Oil and earned his Automotive Mechanics Ticket from SAIT. He eventually went into business for himself, starting with the White Rose Service Station in 1963. He then purchased the GM dealership in 1965 which he owned until 1991 when he retired to enjoy his many hobbies – woodworking, fishing, music, gun & antique collecting, and spending time on his farm with his family and friends.

Bob served the town of Drayton Valley as councillor from 1970-174 and as the town’s mayor for three terms (1980-83, 1983-86, and 1986-89)

He was predeceased by his step father Dave Rand in 1979, his father Jack Mayhew in 1989 and his mother Hilda Rand in 2000.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12th @ 2:00 pm at the Mackenzie Conference Centre in Drayton Valley with Rev. Bob Aldrich officiating.

Memorial donations in his memory may be made to D.V. Masonic Lodge, Box 663, Drayton Valley, Alberta T7A 1S1 or to the Edmonton Shrine Club, 14510-142nd St NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6V 1H9 or to the United Church in Drayton Valley.

Sally

Sincere sympathy to you, Lil , and family. Gary passed the news on to me, and he will surely miss the warm friendship he and Bob had. It’s wonderful to have such good memories of Arizona and playing ball. I was up to check out his new place at Desert Cove last week. He’ll be happy there, it’s much like Mesa..
So pleased that you have family to help you through this difficult time.
Regards,
Sally ( from Victoria)
