Lon Wenger

Dear Auntie Mamie,

I’ve been really blessed in my lifetime and have seen many things. However, one thing that I have never seen was Uncle Russell without a smile. He was such a kind and gentle man.

I have so many wonderful memories of him…

I’ll remember that each and every time I saw him he would proudly give me an update that Lana and I’s trees that you had so kindly “fostered” were doing well. That act of kindness meant so much to us as kids, even more now as adults and to our parents.

I’ll remember all of the tent parties; The weddings, The Services and The Runs. These events were always filled with so much love and warmth and they filled my young eyes, growing mind and tiny heart with so much wonder and joy.

These are memories that I’ll have forever.

I’ll remember playing the organ in your home and the two of you being thrilled and appreciative with anything my little fingers had to offer. I remember studying and practicing new songs just so I could “show off” to Uncle Russell and Auntie Mamie the next time I had the pleasure of seeing them.

I treasured those drives out to the country. They are memories that I hold very dear. It is fitting for me that Uncle Russell is now at home in heaven because for me your entire family was always one that I felt really strived to bring the grace and kindness and warmth of heaven to earth.

Auntie Mamie, Uncle Russell was a great man and I am lucky to have had him as a role model of what a loving Husband and Father truly looks like.

If there is anything that my little family can do to help your family please let us know.

Love Lon, Megan and Bennett

Our condolences on the passing of Uncle Russell. I have fond memories from when I was a little boy having spent time with him while growing up. I have a posted a picture of him and myself when I was just over a year old sitting on Laddie and him holding me there. That was taken in July 1953. Our loving thoughts are with you at this time.
