WEIMER, Deanna Helen

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Deanna Weimer on September 22, 2022, due to cancer. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Deanna was born on November 12, 1949, in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Walter and Helen Unrau. In October 1972, she married her husband Norm and in 1975, they moved to Sherwood Park where they have lived ever since. Deanna was a very kind and loving woman, and the welfare of her family was most important to her. She enjoyed travelling, reading, knitting, going for walks, shopping for deals, and especially visiting with friends.

Deanna will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Norm; son Brent (Shelli Trudel) and daughter Lisa Knorr; her four grandchildren Gavin and Lauryn Weimer, Connor, and Mya Knorr; brother Vern (Elvira) Unrau; as well as many extended family members and lifelong friends.

The family would like to thank all who provided care and support, Rivercrest Hospice for providing end of life care, and Pastor Marv Ziprick for providing spiritual care.

A memorial service to celebrate Deanna’s life will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 298 Bethel Drive, Sherwood Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ‘The Rock’ feeding Edmonton’s homeless at “therockedm.ca” or donation envelopes can be picked up at the church.

I taught at Pine Street School and worked with Deanna both in the library and office area. I will always remember how the children sought out Deanna when they were troubled. They, like all who worked with her, knew her kindness and empathy. I think fondly on the many conversations we shared throughout our years together. A very special person who will be missed by many.

I met Deanna at Pine Street School. I was a teacher and Deanna was our school secretary. We all had those days when we got to work feeling a bit tired and down. But, if I went to the office first, Deanna always greeted me with a warm smile, a gentle touch, a kind word. It made me feel better and ready to face the day. She was the first voice I heard when my kids phoned me at school. And she was there for me when my daughter was dying from a brain tumour. Even after retiring, we met often for golf, lunches and coffee. She was the most gracious hostess! I kept touch with Deanna right until she passed away, and I will miss her dearly. She truly was one special lady!

Deanna was one of the first people that I got to know well when we started our families. We compared notes about our babies and children and learned and supported each other through those early childhood years. She was incredibly stoic, organized and always caring. Her positive attitude about life rubbed off on people, as did her lovely smile. I shall miss you, Deanna.

Deanna

I did not know you long.
We met golfing after retirement
But how I admired you
On the course and off.

You were always a kind,
Positive thinker,
Even when the ball went sideways
A smile.

I admired your commitment
To everything I saw you do,
Including an immaculately clean house
And dedication to your family and friends.

During your final journey,
Still that strength,
That smile and laugh,
You will be remembered.

Always.
