WALTON, Leeroy (Lee) Herbert

March 27, 1929 – August 18, 2022

Lee circled the dance floor one last time as he passed away in peace just three weeks after celebrating his 70th wedding anniversary with Jean, who was the love of his life. Family and friends will mourn his passing but remember him as a sweet, gentle and playful guy with a never ending sense of humour that kept us all amused. These enduring qualities stayed with him right to the end of his long and well lived life.

Born at the Edmonton General Hospital to Teresa and Lee Walton he split his early years between Edmonton and Pibroch where at one country dance a young lady caught his eye and eventually led to their marriage a short time later. A family soon formed with Bryan (1954) and Jacquie (1955) both born in Westlock. In 1958 he moved the family to Edmonton where he worked for Imperial Oil for 12 years and thereafter a few different jobs before his last career move to Northern Transportation Company Limited until his retirement in 1989.

Lee and Jean enjoyed many summers at Lac St Anne, camping with grandkids around Alberta and spending winters in Arizona all while enjoying his favourite past times of playing cards and golfing. They also had the opportunity to take international vacations together to Europe, Asia and South America. When overwintering in Arizona was no longer possible he was content to play bridge three times a week and catch the dances with Jean at the senior centre in St. Albert right up to the start of the pandemic.

Lee is predeceased by parents Lee and Teresa, brother-in-law Cliff MacCabe, sister-in-law Grace (Woodrow) Campbell. He will be dearly missed by surviving family members; wife Jean, children Bryan (Joan), Jacquie (Ken) Riske, grandchildren; Heather (Phil) Bourgeois, Lisa Beebe (Ron Sperling), Scott Walton, Kari (Ryan) Haskins and great grandchildren Sydney, Preston, Finn, Owen, Levi, Nova, Birk and Lucas and sisters-in-law Gail (Uwe) Terner and Joanne MacCabe.

Dad you will keep us smiling and laughing for rest of our years – we love you for your patience, good humour and affection for your family. Enjoy the eternal dance and rest in peace.

A private celebration of life will take place with immediate family members in keeping with Lee’s last wishes.
