“He saved my life!”
My mother, Elizabeth (Elsie) Cox, is Walter’s sister. She tells of the time when she was 8 or 10 years old and had a very bad breathing problem at the same time that the family was getting ready to head over to Uncle Mike’s place, and it was Easter time too. Mom couldn’t go because her breathing was so bad she couldn’t even sit up. Uncle Walter insisted on staying home with her because he was worried she would get worse. And after the rest of the family headed over to Uncle Mike’s, Mom’s breathing got so bad that Uncle Walter ran across the road to Frank Carlson’s place for help. Frank’s wife was chronically sick with respiratory problems and so he had a lot of medicines. He came back with Uncle Walter and looked after Mom, giving her something that she says allowed her to have a deep sleep. When she woke up, she was covered in sweat and the sickness had passed. My mother says that Uncle Walter saved her life that day! I wanted everyone to know this story because it honours the memory of Uncle Walter.
Sincerely, Daniel Maoz (Uncle Walter’s nephew) [April 8, 2015]
