Just found out of the passing of my old co-worker and friend Don. My sympathy to the Vella family. I’ve attached a photo of the time Don spent some time with my family in California for Christmas back in 2008.

I am deeply saddened to hear that Don has passed away. I met Don in 1979 at Monenco and we hit it off immediately. The man could make me laugh. He took some wonderful photos at my wedding in 1982 and made an album for us. He worked for me for a couple of years before heading overseas to work in Algeria, and when he returned to Canada we connected again but only briefly. I tried many times to reach him and just couldn’t find where he was working. I always missed him and his wonderful friendship. Don had a heart of gold and I will miss him, but I have a life time of great memories of a beautiful, kind hearted man. My condolences to Lisa.

Trips through the Rocky Mountains, countless hours of fishing, white water rafting and humorous conversations about Montreal sporting franchises, are just some of the cherished events that influenced my childhood. Uncle Don will be remembered for his generosity and enthusiasm for family, shown by his endless support for my mom and us kids, while sharing these unforgettable experiences.

In my younger years, I can remember the sheer excitement of finding out we get to visit Uncle Don. Later on, I can remember the excitement he shared when my wife and I asked if he would ring the church bells at our wedding.

No moment could pass without a light comment or a joke. His humour was contagious.

We’re all going to miss you pal.

Don was a good brother-in-law. When we had the chance to be together, he often shared stories about his mom and dad, as well as his memories of Malta, Egypt, Montreal and life in Alberta. He had a unique sense of humour, and cared deeply about Nancy and the family.

Rest well, my friend . . .

Nancy Roach (nee Vella)

Don will always be remembered as my big brother, We shared many things during our lives, and fond memories of our time together will allow us to celebrate and remember all the good times.

Thank you, Don. May you rest in peace . . .
