Varden Gilbert Lawrence


On Saturday, October 3rd Vardy peacefully passed from this earth to join his beloved wife Jean for eternity.
Vardy was born and raised in the farming/ranching community of Fort Saskatchewan and was known and loved by many. A well-seasoned cowboy, Vardy loved animals and was actively involved with 4-H and gymkhana. He also had a passion for antique engines, the area tractor club and volunteering at the local museum.
He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his daughter Margaret (Gary) Luyckfassel; his son Don (Dorothy) Lawrence; daughter-in-law Barb Arsenault; four grandchildren, Mark (Nancy) Luyckfassel, Annette (Derrick) Fayant, Candy (Curtis) Haydaman and Mandy (Mike Versteegt) Lawrence; as well as six great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
Vardy was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jean Dorothea Lawrence (nee Mohr); his son John Gilbert Ross Lawrence; three siblings Harvey, Kathleen and Ed.
A Celebration of Vardy’s Life will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, October 9, 2015 in the Dow Centennial Centre, Lions Mane Banquet Room, 8700-84 Street, Fort Saskatchewan,
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Vardy, donations may be made to STARS Edmonton Base, Suite 100, 1519 35 Avenue East, Edmonton International Airport, Alberta, T9E 0V6.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. Bob Stecyk for the care and comfort he provided Vardy over the last 40 years. Gord and Cindy Kadatz managing directors.

Don, Dee, Mandy and family,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Vardy. My heart goes out to you and your family at this very difficult time. He touched the hearts of many people during his time with us, always bringing warmth and happiness to those around him. A great man, whose spirit will continue in those who had the privilege of knowing him.
