Michael Edward Toohey
March 26, 1953 – March 26, 2022
On March 26, 2022, loved ones of Michael Edward Toohey said goodbye to ‘their storyteller’ who tragically passed away.
Michael is survived by his wife Kathie, their sons TJ, Sean (Nichole) and Adam (Sheri). All who knew him knew his boys were his pride and joy; however, the love he had for his grandchildren Kieron, Cohen, Aubrey, Jace, Seth, Mason, and Hudson was obvious every time he shared their stories.
Michael’s face would light up when he spoke of his grandchildren’s hockey skills, their reading aptitudes, and of the tremendous joy they brought to his life. Memories of Michael carving whistles, spending time at the beach, embarking on fishing trips and attending music festivals will be relished by his loved ones. He made time to attend special events for his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews alike.
Michael has a wide circle of friends and family who will miss him dearly. He leaves behind his siblings Maureen (Ron), Thomas (Sheree), Daniel (Kimberly), William (Melanie) and Matthew (Sher); far too soon after losing their dear sister Frances (Patrick). His 20 nieces and nephews, along with their spouses and 9 great nieces and nephews will miss his presence at the many family events, especially the annual family farm gathering.
Michael’s family identify him as the ‘ever-so-Irish’ first born who could weave a story from: his many adventures, his vast knowledge of music and his romanticism which activated the imaginations of all who listened. He taught school for many years and without a doubt, his innate skill as a storyteller would have been an asset in the classroom. His students would have appreciated his ability to describe history and language enhanced with Michael’s articulation of abundant detail.
We all take comfort in knowing that his dad Edward, his mom Irene, and his sister Fran would have been there to greet him as he left this world. We’re ever grateful to Michael for the love and friendship he shared, as well as the ‘listening ears’ he provided in his many conversations. Michael loved to text family and friends on St. Patrick’s Day. His 2022 greeting reads:
Hey folks! Happy St. Pat’s. Love to all.
‘May your troubles be less. And your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness come through your door!’
Details of Michael’s celebration of Life will be shared at a later date.
