1995 to 2023
At 27, Monique is gone.
Monique leaves behind two sons, Ethan Theriault and Ryder; father Garry Tocher; twin brother Nicholas, The Tocher siblings are Jessica, Justin, and Leslie. The Smillie siblings are Randy, Victoria Meagan, and Christian. Condolences to Monique’s paternal grandmother Dorothy Tasker. Special thanks to Victoria Sophie, who kept in touch with her brother and sister and who has been a support to Nicky now. Monique is predeceased by her mother, Nicole Tocher (Smillie). Condolences to the Smillie/Bouvier families — aunts Arlene, Julie, uncle Michael, great uncle Fernancd and families in Cole Bay, Saskatchewan, and beyond.
Also, she is lost to her adoptive mother, Marla Hillier and Nova Scotia family of grandparents (Cecil and Hazel), aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who knew her as this bubbly beautiful toddler, child, and young woman. She was an excellent walker and traveller. Monique could glide effortlessly through the water like an Olympian and she loved riding horses. Frank Allard reconnected in later years, offering fatherly advice to both Monique and Nicky.
From the early years, many thanks to the medical specialists and Jim Blackadar and Sheila Yaremko of Children Services. There are other good people, unknown to the families, that tried to help in recent years, such as her social workers and Nova House staff. Thank you for caring.
For those who knew Monique’s adult life, and wish to honour her, please keep trying to make positive, healthy choices for your life and those around you. It is too late when you can’t.
