THIESSEN, Arthur Joseph

Art Thiessen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 93 after a long and fulfilling life. Although we will greatly miss him, we rejoice that he is now whole and in the presence of the Lord.

Art was born on a farm near Hanley, Saskatchewan. His childhood involved many exciting antics on the farm with his numerous siblings. He went on to Briercrest to Bible school for 4 years, where he loved to play hockey. He later met and married his wife Clara Wilson in 1952. They served in many churches and opened their home, blessing many with their hospitality. Art was a Sunday school superintendent for many years. He and Clara were wonderful parents to five blessed children!

Art had a varied career beginning in North Battleford, SK, Fort Nelson, BC, Whitehorse, YT and ending in Edmonton where he retired. In retirement Art enjoyed working on his scroll saw for hours at a time, creating many detailed “works of Art”. His steady hands and patience created beautiful crafts, many of those gifted to those he loved.

He was a great encourager and prayer warrior for his family and many others. His quiet manner and spirit was an example of his faith in the Lord and his desire to serve Him. He was a humble and sincere man with a wonderful sense of humour.

Art was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Clara. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Donna (Bill), Dianne (Werner), Dave (Linda), Debbie (Wes), Doug (Joanna), as well as his grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy, Ashley, Joshua, Courtney, Kyle, Shayna and their spouses, and great grandchildren, Eliana and Isaiah.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his memory to the charity of your choice.

Art was a great friend and brother to me. We shared many wonderful experiences and we worked very well together. Condolences to the family. I have donated $200 to an outreach project in the Balkans in Art’s memory.

Beverly and I send our condolences to all of you, When I last visited, your love for Art was so evident. We share with you the joy of his presence with the Lord.

My memories of being with my brother, Art, go a long way back. After we grew up we were separated and lived 100’s of miles apart. We saw each other at family reunions and would reminisce about the days on the farm and catch up with what we were doing. I am sure he shared many farm stories and school experiences with you. Art even helped to advance my education. We were in grade 2 and grade 1 and were the only ones at school in those grades. After Christmas the teacher put us together in 2nd grade. I give credit to Art for that advancement in my education.

In more recent years we were able to see each other more often and talked weekly on our phones using face time. The last time we visited I could see how wonderfully you all shared in taking care of Art. God will bless you for that and it is a wonderful memory for me. You will all be in my daily prayers.

Dad and I loved and appreciated Art tremendously. He was a great brother and uncle, very caring and kind. Sharon’s memories of him and Aunt Clara are wonderful-we spent so much time together up north. Art and Clara were great to work with; Dad and Art worked outdoors together for the Dept of Transport for a number of years. Art worked hard as well leading Sunday School, singing, and as an elder. Our love goes out to all the family. Dad will make a donation to his church in Art’s name.

Art Thiessen was a wonderful, loving family man who enjoyed every gathering, every home cooked meal and every conversation with friends and family. I will surely miss this kind and caring friend who always cheered me on in any endeavor I spoke of! My deepest condolences to the children and grandchildren who stood by his side and cared for him and made sure his needs were met. It was a pleasure to be a part of the Thiessen family and to get to know Mr. Thiessen. May he rest in perfect happiness beside his wife Clara.
