Tattiana Day passed away peacefully in her home.
Tania Day was born as Tattiana Papouban on December 30, 1923 in Basra, Iraq while her parents were running away from the Russian revolution. Her father was an officer in the white army. Tania was the third of six kids.
Few years later her family settled in Teheran, Iran with the hopes of one day returning to their Russian homeland. Early in her education, she attended a Russian school to maintain her heritage. As she grew older, she went to a French Catholic school to advance her education.
At the age of 23 she married Vladimir Nagatkin. Together they raised four daughters; Marina, Katrine, Svetlana, and Evgenia.
Due to her knowledge of multiple languages she was employed in a French company as an executive assistant for many years.
Her husband Vladimir passed away in 1976. In 1978, because of political unrest in Iran, Tania decided to join her daughter and family in Canada. She continued her career as an administrative assistant, finding employment at an insurance company.
Through a close friend in Canada, she was introduced to Women’s Aglow. It was at an Aglow meeting that she became a born again Christian. This decision complimented her strong Russian Orthodox upbringing.
In the autumn of her life she met and married Donald Day. They were devotedly married for 29 years. Don was at her bedside when she peacefully passed away to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 29, 2014.
Tania was lovingly known to many as “Grandma Day” and was a shining light. It was her joy to welcome others into her home and to her table. She will be greatly missed.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5)
She is survived by her loving husband Donald Day; her daughters: Marina, Katrine, Svetlana, Eugenia; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at Highway Christian Centre, 10436-63 Avenue Edmonton, Alberta T6H 1P3 on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
