It is with a mixture of sorrow and relief that we announce the passing of Robert William Tandy, husband, father, friend, on Saturday August 1, 2020. Though he fought valiantly, the cruelty of Alzheimer’s disease diminished him as it took him away from us. He was a good man and deserved a better fate.
Born in Brantford, Ontario, the eldest of four children to Walter and Hilda Tandy, “Bob” left home at the tender age of 19 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Some of the best years of his life were spent in the military, where over the next 25 years of service he made life long friends, excelled at his trade as an aircraft mechanic, and also met and married the love of his life, Frances Hart.
A skilled woodworker, Bob loved creating whimsical birdhouses, lawn decorations and children’s toys. Blessed with an intuitive mechanical ability he was able to repair most anything, whether automotive or household, and could always be counted on to help a friend or neighbour solve a mechanical mystery.
Bob possessed a wicked sense of humour and delighted in a well planned practical joke, usually to the amusement of the target of the joke.
He had been a proud member of the Masonic Order since 1969.
Bob Tandy leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Fran, his son Michael (Nadina) and granddaughter Allegra, his brother and sisters (Jim, Joyce and Joan) his nephew and niece, and great nieces Linus, Sandi, Kylie and Erin, numerous relatives far and wide and all of the friends he made along the way.
“There is only one happiness in this life; to love and be loved.”
A socially distant celebration of life will be held Monday, August 10, 2020 at 2:00 pm
