Tribute wall - a place to share your memories and condolences

Randy Ervin

Stewart was my second oldest brother. He was someone I looked up to when was young. As a toddler, I can remember him pushing me around the farm in a baby carriage that had been lined with cardboard and converted into a car. When I was older, he used to entertain me with stories of his “rabble-rousing” as a young man in Leduc in the 1950’s – turning over out-houses at Halloween, outsmarting the local police and chasing the young ladies in his red convertible. He also taught me something about the importance of hard work during those trucking trips to Northern Alberta in the 1960’s when I was “swamping” for him. O how he loved trucks and trucking! What I learned, of course, that this was difficult work and I that I was more suited to a “desk job”. Stu also had a compassionate and caring side. In the late 1980’s, while my wife and I were in the USA , we had our first child – Alice. But, unfortunately, Alice was born with a terrible disability. One of the first people to telephone me at the time was Stu who provided support to me during this family crisis. In his last years, I occasionally talked to Stu as he was struggling with more and more health issues. But he was always cheerful, optimistic and upbeat about things and this amazed me. He was a fighter! Sadly, his fight came to an end last week. I know he is at rest now and has joined Mom and Dad and my Alice. But I will always think of him when I see a big Mac truck barreling along the highway – because that’s where he always wanted to be – up in the driver’s seat as the countryside raced by, heading for somewhere out there with a purpose.

My heartfelt condolences to Connie, Kent and Dean.
