Sophie Marina Hein (nee Kaiser)


Sophie Marina Hein (nee. Kaiser) age 81 of Edmonton, Alberta peacefully passed away on August 5, 2018 in her home at the Lynwood Capital Care.

Sophie was born in Vulcan, Alberta to Alex and Mollie Kaiser, the fifth of nine children on March 30, 1937 where she grew up on the family farm.

Sophie is survived by her brothers John (Alma), Sam (Marilyn), Alex, Leo (Diana); sister-in-law Priscilla (Weir); brother-in-law Elmer Gerhardt; her children Ken Hein (Shelley Kontek), Susan Gretzinger (Ray Gretzinger) and 5 grandchildren Daniel Hein (Alisa), Jason Gretzinger, Brad Gretzinger, Lauren Hein (Dean Martin) and David Hein. Sophie was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Mollie Kaiser; daughter Arlene Hein; brothers Henry Kaiser, David Kaiser; sisters Eileen Sipe, Betty Gerhardt and sister-in-law Stephanie Kaiser.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff, residents and doctor at Lynnwood Capital Care, the Misericordia Community Hospital Edmonton, and all friends and family for their kindness and compassionate care during her final days.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 7:00pm – 9:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311-91 Street NW Edmonton.

Sophie will be laid to rest on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.

A Celebration of Sophie’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at West Meadows Baptist Church 9333-199 Street NW, Edmonton.

Sophie was a very special lady. Joy and laughter came with her when she entered a room. She spread the love of Jesus widely. We first met Sophie in Bible School and became lifelong friends. She will be greatly missed.
