Dear Dale, Lisa and Trevor, I am so deeply saddened by Sonya’s passing. She truly was one of those special people. She had a light inside her that shone so brightly that you just wanted to be around her. She was incredibly genuine, smart, extremely kind-hearted. I have so many wonderful memories of times with my dear cousin. I remember growing up being the youngest of the cousins on my Dad’s side, always proud to spend time with my ”cool older cousins” that I looked up to. I have fond memories of Ukrainian Christmases out at Thorsby, me, Sonya and Dale, Joyce and Larry, always down in the basement sharing stories and laughs over a cold one. So many great memories over the years with such a special person. I’m especially thankful for having shared so many family gatherings with her the last few years. Those memories I will hold in my heart forever. She taught me a lot about living. She never complained through all of her health struggles, always found the bright side in everything, and truly had a heart of gold. My heart hurts for you all. The whole family is so grateful to you, Dale, for being Sonya’s biggest supporter your entire lifetime together. I always believed that what Sonya and Dale had is what true love is all about. I am forever grateful for having Sonya, beloved cousin and inspirational woman in my life. If I can live the rest of my days with half of the courage, grace and dignity that she did, it will be a life well-lived. My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time.

Its so sad to hear this news. We are all so sorry for your loss.

I fondly recall that when I was attending school in Edmonton, Sonya would often phone me or drop in at my apartment just to say “hello”. Later on, when I was working downtown we would connect during the lunch hour. I always looked forward to her visits and to share a laugh.

Sending hugs to you all. May she rest in peace.
