SMITH, Ryan Wallace

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ryan Wallace Smith wishes to announce that Ryan succumbed suddenly and unexpectedly to cancer on 15 February 2020 at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, at the age of 47 …. and so, Wally the Walnut has ended his journey.

Ryan is survived by his nana Ethel, who was key in helping him turn his life around and achieve success as an Alberta Land Surveyor; by the light of his life, his daughter Effie; by his proud father, Barrie, also an ALS; by his mother, Bonnie, and step-father, Lorne; by his partner, Julie; by a large extended family including half-brother and sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, step-siblings; and by nana June; as well as many friends and co-workers.

Ryan received his commission as an ALS in October 2016. He soon became a partner at Pals Geomatics where he was highly respected by all his colleagues. With his wry sense of humour, Ryan was larger than life, never minced words, and partied hard. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Gone too soon.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held in the spring, location and date to be announced.

Tribute wall - a place to share your memories and condolences

After the way we last spoke to one and other, to come back all these years and see this…I’m in a limbo. You were someone I looked up to. Now you’re gone. I would like to know when and where the memorial will be held in the spring.
