SHUBERT, Marshall John

Marshall Shubert went to sleep on earth and woke up in Heaven on July 2, 2022.
Marshall was born on June 7, 1931 in Smokey Lake, AB to John & Mary (Dehod) Shubert. His father was from Poland and became a pioneer teacher in Bellis, and his mother was Ukrainian and looked after the family home. While Marshall had a Ukrainian heritage, he actually learned the language from a childhood playmate that did not speak English.
Marshall fondly told stories of his childhood including spending time with his youngest uncle and grandmother in Vilna, summers with Syliva and their cousins, and looking after his little brother Eddy.
Marshall met his first wife, Stella (Leskiw) in Spedden, AB. They moved to Edmonton, and Stella became a nurse at the original Misericordia Hospital. Marshall attended University and then worked at a city office. They were married and had two children Mark and Dianne (Bathe). Marshall and Stella started Stel-Mar Concrete in his father’s garage making sidewalk blocks and curbs. He grew the business from swimming pool construction and pre-cast products to ready mix concrete with 65 mixer trucks and 5 concrete plants.
Marshall loved family time with his kids and nieces and nephews.
He was active in Boy Scouts and became the leader of the Tête Jaune Trail area. He was also active in Curling and made great friends in the Spruce Grove area. He coached baseball and enjoyed golfing and fishing. Marshall loved to travel and visited many countries with his brother Edward from Houston, TX. They were best friends and visited each other often, as well as taking trips to see their sister Sylvia in Wyoming.
Mark & Tracey and Dianne & Tom Bathe gave them three grandchildren, Breanna (Shubert) Rhyason, Lindsay Bathe and Kaylee (Bathe) Perpar. He took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He would take them on walks around the acreage; cheer them on at sporting events and loved waking up together as a family on Christmas morning.
Marshall lost his first wife Stella in 1997. He was fortunate enough to meet a lovely lady he knew in his youth, whom he loved to the end, Mary (Richter). They married and Mary became “Grandmary” to the grandkids. Mary and Marshall enjoyed travelling together and spending winters in Houston with his brother Ed and his wife Mary.
Marshall is survived by his loving wife Mary, his brother Edward (Mary), children Mark (Laurie-Jo), Dianne Bathe (Tom), grandchildren Breanna Rhyason (Tyler), Lindsay Bathe (Shawn), Kaylee Perpar (Dave) and many nieces and nephews. Marshall was pre-deceased by his parents Mary & John, sister Sylvia Christopher, first wife Stella, and daughter-in-law Tracey.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
