Shirley Adeline Balding


First born to Cleland & Irene (nee Wardle) Mitchell, in Virden, Manitoba, Shirley attended M.T.I., Winnipeg and affiliated, as an LPN,in Neepewa, Mb. Nursing in Virden, Mb, as her mother before her.
Shirley married John Glenn Balding in Woodnorth, Mb. Married for 60 years, their marriage of June 4, 1955 resulted in 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Following Glenn’s job’s,in the oilfield, they lived in Manitoba, Sask, B.C. and settled in Alberta. Leduc became their home in 1977.
As a daughter, sister,aunt, wife, mother and grandmother she was devoted, selfless, loving,generous and thoughtful. She enjoyed family get togethers, gardening, crosswords and seeing that family was well fed. She collected decorative frogs and received many as gifts. Grandchildren were entertained by trying to count how many.
Shirley endured extreme poly-cystic kidney disease and bravely faced it without complaint. Surrounded by her family she peacefully died due to pulmonary fibrosis and heart failure but suffers no more.
Survived by; John Glenn Balding, children; Sherry (Terry) Hagman (Duane,Steven)- Wembley, Trevor (Lorraine) Balding (Amanda, David)-Calgary, Bradley Balding (Jenny,Tina,Jolene)-Devon, Beverly (Jim) Butler (Sean, Ryan)-Calgary, Tracy (Andy) Musson (Gregory,Brian,Jeffrey)-Thorsby, Karen (J.C.) Balding. Great grandchildren Andi, Corbin and Hadley. Sister’s; Lorrie(Jack)Scott-White Rock, Beryl (Lou) Williams-Oak Lake, Dixie (Fred) Mitchell-Winnipeg, Adele (Bill) Priestley-Chilliwack and extended family.
Shirley will be dearly missed. Anyone wishing to make donations may donate to The Kidney Foundation of Canada in her name. Or a charity of your choice.
October 8,2015 would have been Shirley’s 80th birthday, as a way to celebrate please wear purple, her favourite colour, on this day.
Special acknowledgements of great compassion go to Dr. Wilson and nursing staff at the U of A hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Monday the 28th of September, 2015 at the Daystar Church, 3610 Gaetz Road, Leduc,Ab. T9E 6N4 at 1:00 pm.
