Sherryl Ann Smith

Sherry Smith
10 March 1952 – 11 December 2013
Sherry Smith (nee Rude) passed away peacefully in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, on December 11, 2013 at the age of 61. She is survived by her husband Rick, children Michael Marr, Sayler Marr Doell (Neil), Kendra Marr Lange (James), Blair Smith, and Brett Smith, grandchildren Hayley, Avery, and Gavin, and siblings Shirley Marr and Gordon Rude (Lynn). She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Bernice Rude (nee Blair).
Sherry was born and raised in Cereal, Alberta, and always identified herself as a prairie girl. Her fondest memories were playing football with the neighborhood kids and visiting her cousins.
Sherry worked as an elementary school teacher for over 35 years, mostly at Elmer Elson Elementary School in Mayerthorpe where she taught grades 1 and 3. Sherry touched many young lives throughout her life and was always proud to see her former students succeed.
Sherry’s passion for education was paired with a love of sports, especially hockey and dancing. Sherry’s hockey career spanned five decades and some highlights were playing on a team with both her daughters and scoring a goal on her 60th birthday.
Rick and family would like to thank the family and friends who offered love and support during Sherry’s illness.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held at 11am, December 22nd, 2013 at the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre.

I have just learned of Sherry’s passing. I taught Sherry in Cereal and had the pleasure of working with her Mom, Bernice. Sherry so impressed us with her enthusiasm and zest for life that we named our first daughter after her! Our Sherri has now taught for some 20 years. Our condolences to all her family!
