Sherrill Jean Brown

-

It is with great sadness that the family announces her passing following a valiant two-year battle against cancer. Sherrill leaves to mourn her loving husband Robert (Bob) of 44 years; son Christopher and his fiancée Rhonda Schiewe; son-in-law Paul Galas; grandchildren Miroslav Brown, Spencer Galas and Kylie Galas (Leduc and Area); mother Eileen Demeter; sister Debra Morrison and brother Peter Demeter (Bowmanville, ON); many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Robyn Galas and her father William Demeter.

Sherrill was a born teacher and child advocate. During the 70s, she taught preschool and kindergarten programs in Leduc and Millet. She advanced her teaching career as a Tenured Professor at Grant MacEwan University in the Early Childhood Program. She was an active member of both the Alberta and Canadian Child Care Federations. Sherrill was an active member of the Leduc Drama Society, directing and acting in many productions, particularly musicals.

Sherrill loved to spend time at her cottage at Crystal Sands, Mara Lake, BC and was able to spend four beautiful months this past summer at the cottage.

As a valued member of St. David’s United Church in Leduc, she will be greatly missed for her voice in the choir, and her active work with the congregation.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jana Holden and her staff at the Griffiths Clinic; Dr. Venner and staff at the Cross Cancer Institute; and all the nurses and staff of the 2nd Floor units at the Leduc General Hospital and Homecare for all their caring support these past two years. We especially want to thank Anna from WeCare.

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for your support of the Cross Cancer Clinic, c/o The Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 9Z9; St. David’s Memorial Fund, 4614 – 48 Street, Leduc, AB T9E 5X7; or Dr. Sherrill J Brown Memorial Award – MacEwan University, 10700 – 104 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 4S2.
