PEETS SERNA, Sharlene
1963 – 2022
The family of Sharlene Peets sadly announces her passing on January 1, 2022 at the age of 58. Sharlene is survived by her beloved children Reece, Devan and Jada Serna, her parents Ray and Marlene Peets, her brother Randy (Myrna) Peets, her sister, Shauna Peets, her many treasured friends, her loving dog Levi, and her impish cats, Mary-Kate and Ashley.
Sharlene was an accomplished horsewoman and loved to show her Arabian horses, Fixture, Mimosa and Khelli. Together, they won many championships and provided years of joy to Shar and her family. Sharlene had a strong kinship to animals, she loved them dearly and they loved her. Throughout her life, Sharlene’s companions included many dogs and cats – she was also a mom to numerous fur baby strays.
Sharlene wasn’t just the life of the party, she WAS the party. She loved to entertain and took great pride in her cooking. Her dinners were legendary. She loved to have friends and family to her home where they were wowed by her amazing, delicious dinners. Wine in hand, Shar would simultaneously be cooking a five-star dinner while sending her guests rolling towards the floor with laughter. Shar’s deep circle of friends is a testament to her kind, caring nature, and her infectious sense of humour.
For the past 10 years, Sharlene loved to work with her colleagues at Rogers McLean Shaw Insurance Brokers.
Most importantly, Sharlene was a devoted mother to her children and took great pride in being their champion and guiding them through life.
Our deepest gratitude to the medical staff in the critical care unit at the Mazankowski Heart Institute.
A celebration of Sharlene’s life will be held in spring, 2022.
Women’s health research, and heart health in particular, are historically underfunded and sometimes non-existent. Heart attack and stroke are the number one cause of premature death for women in Canada… Canadian women are five times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer… 53 per cent of women who have heart attack symptoms go undiagnosed when they seek medical treatment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Sharlene Peets name to the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation through the DONATE page on their web site – albertawomenshealthfoundation.org
