Lorraine passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Christmas Day, December 25th, after a lengthy hospital stay. Despite the pandemic restrictions, Lorraine had Suzanne and Kalyn by her side for the majority of her stay and was able to see many of her family via Zoom or in person.
Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her sons Mike (Angela) and Todd (Darlene); daughter Suzanne (Dave); grandchildren Kalyn (Greg), Spencer (Mandy), Jason (Robyn) and Austin (Tiffany); greatgrandchildren Caleb, Noah, Brooklynn, Emily, Brody, Gavin and Allyson; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents William and Bertha Hirsekorn and her husband of 66 years, Emil. Lorraine was the last remaining of 6 siblings in her family. It was no doubt a joyful reunion as together they celebrated the birthday of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Lorraine will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle soul. She loved her Lord, her family, church family and friends. During COVID lock downs Lorraine’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought great joy with almost daily Facebook Portal visits. Seeing their smiling faces, hearing laughter, and watching them play kept Lorraine strong and hopeful. Lorraine and Emil lived on their acreage in the Ardrossan area where Lorraine kept a large garden to provide food for her family and to ensure there was always a meal to share with friends and family who came over. They moved to Bedford Village in Sherwood Park in 2014. Lorraine’s family will continue to be wrapped in her warm embrace with the hand sewn quilts she made for them.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a “by invitation only” service will be held at Glory Lutheran Church, Sherwood Park on Saturday, January 8 @ 1:00 pm and the livestream can be accessed at https://www.glorylutheran.ca. The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Mo Benguzzi, Dawn and her staff on Unit 3D4 for the care, compassion and respect they provided during her last 11 days. Thank you to their Bedford Village family and care team. Donations may be made directly to Memorial Garden, Glory Lutheran Church (22577 Hwy 16, Sherwood Park, AB, T8A 4T7, https://www.glorylutheran.ca/memorial-garden) or a charity of one’s choice. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for both Emil and Lorraine when weather and pandemic restrictions permit. Serenity Funeral Service – South Edmonton, (780)450-0101.
