Karl – Heinz Schmidt

“Work hard, play hard.”

A motto that Karl always lived his life by. After working long days at his job, Karl would come home to the farm and fire up his John Deer just to get back at it for a few more hours. When the time came to hit his La-Z-Boy he would fall asleep within 5 minutes, still clutching the remote, only to wake up the next morning and do it all over again.

Even though he was a busy man, he still found time to regularly invite his friends and family over for a BBQ or a 10-pallet-high fire.

During the summer months you would find Karl outside all day long, working on his garden or just “putzing” around on the farm. In the winter you would find him hibernating in the basement playing with his LEGO collection, taking a steam shower, or admiring his in-home urinal.

On May 8th, 2018, at the age of 58, Karl passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the University of Alberta Hospital. He leaves behind a loving family; his two boys Adam and Thomas, mother Alma, sister Gisela and brother-in-law David, and extended family in Alberta and Germany.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Thursday, May 17th at 2:00pm at the Day Star Church (3610 Gaetz Road, Leduc AB).

Karl’s voice was as big as his heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The life of the party has moved on to a new one, We love you, Karl.

Dear Alma, Gisela and Family: I am so sorry to hear of Karl -Heinz’s passing. You are all in my thoughts and heart at this horrible time!

I remember the day he came to his first class at Calmar school. The boy from Germany. We became friends and played a lot of pool through grade nine. I remember how he schooled us during gym class when we went outside to play soccer. No one could get the ball off him. So sad to hear him pass.

Karl and I were friends many, many years ago. I haven’t seen him in person lately but I always enjoyed his Facebook posts about his llamas, bon fires, and his sons that he was obviously SO proud of! It was obvious to everyone who interacted with Karl that he had a great life and enjoyed it to the maximum. This is very sad news. Karl will always be remembered. My sincere condolences to all of his loved one.
