SCHERER (nee Jegodtka), Helga Eva

Helga Eva passed peacefully into the presence of her Saviour on January 8, 2022, at the age of 91.

She was born in Germany where she trained as a nurse. Immigrating to Canada in 1958, she continued her nursing career in Coronation. In 1961 she moved to Edmonton and had the house built in which she lived until the day before she passed. She worked as an operating room nurse at the University of Alberta Hospital followed by many years at the Royal Alexandra Hospital until she retired.

Helga had a fondness for the finer things of life including good wine, good food, red roses & travel. She loved nature and spent many happy times in Alberta’s parks and hot springs. She was particularly fond of Elk Island Park. Family get togethers, especially for birthdays, were frequent and lively.

She was the last of an era having been predeceased by all her siblings, Karl-Heinz, Friedhelm, Friedlinde, Otto, Christa and Reinhold. A sister Ruth & brother Albert, died in childhood and brother Johannes, died in Germany in WWII. She also had an older half-brother Erich and half-sister Trude, who remained in Germany. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, their families, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 18 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edmonton.

Helga was generous with her resources, donating to many charities. If you so desire, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Helga.
