Gladys was born Gladys Mary Ann Coughlan in Barnettville, New Brunswick, and was the second oldest of 6 children. After high school she continued her education, becoming a Practical Nurse and it was during her training she met Bernard Scheidl, a young man in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They were engaged within months and married on August 7th, 1957. Shortly after they were married, Ben was transferred to England where they had 3 sons in 3 years before returning to Canada and having two more children a daughter in Saskatoon and another son in Portage La Prairie Manitoba.
In 1973 Ben accepted a final transfer to Edmonton Air Force base where they settled in Fort Saskatchewan. Gladys accepted a Caregiver position At River Crest lodge in 1975 where she developed lifelong friendships that became her extended family. She retired in 2000. Gladys and Ben enjoyed their retirement with multiple trips to Hawaii, a trip to Ireland, and soaking up the sun in Mexico. Along the way, they welcomed 7 grandchildren and then 9 great-grandchildren. There was always something to celebrate with holidays and family gatherings, which always included friends. She was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
Forever and always in our hearts. We know we will see her warm smile and hear her precious laugh again.
