SALMON, Gertrude Joyce

On May 25, 2022, Gertrude Joyce Salmon passed away peacefully in Edmonton at the age of 88 years. Joyce is survived by her loving husband Donald, her sons Keith (Deborah), Dale (Jinnie), Eric (Brenley), her daughter Janelle (Jim) Low, her sister Barbara (Watson) Ririe, 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She is now reunited with her sister Rose-Marie (Dan) Ellis, her brother Gordon (Gayla) Jacobs, her parents Thelma and Chariton Jacobs, grandson Jacob Salmon and her recently departed grandson-in-law Justin (Danielle) Deschenes. We feel intensely the loss of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Family and the gospel of Jesus Christ were that most important things to Joyce. Nothing pleased her more that to cook a wonderful meal for her family. Her love was most profoundly expressed by serving others. Don and Joyce were married in the Cardston, Alberta in 1956 and found their greatest joys in raising a family and serving in their church.

The family would like to give special thanks to the compassionate staff at Devonshire Care Centre for the loving care and attention they provided Joyce.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 2 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Edmonton Riverbend Stake Centre (14325-53 Ave). Interment will be prior to the memorial service at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Sister Salmon was a wonderful lady and superb example for us young missionaries in Ogden. She and President Salmon were quite simply the best. She left a lasting impact on many lives by her demeanor and I’ll forever be grateful to know her. Condolences to President Salmon and family and may the comfort knowing the plan of salvation be with you.

I was grateful for the visit we had with Joyce and Don when we brought Mom up to Edmonton last year. So many memories of her from our reunions, and visits. I can hear the sound of her voice even now. It was gentle and kind, which personified Joyce. Condolences and prayers for you Uncle Don, and your family. What a blessing it is to know we will all be together again. Love you all.
