Reginald Kenneth Rust passed away Friday December 10th 2021 at Ponoka general hospital at the age of 86. Reg was born May 12th 1935 in Maidstone Sk. to Walter and Freida Rust. When Reg was 14, he began his career as a carpenter He would spend the next 50 years in the trade. In 1958 Reg came to Ponoka to work on the renovations at the Alberta Hospital, this is where he met Hazel Eastwood, they were married in 1960, Rory the first of their 3 children were born later that year followed by Lorie in 1961 and Ron in 1962. Reg and Hazel purchased 40 acres of land east of town, built a home and raised their family earning a living running their own construction company and farming. In 1980 they sold the farm and moved to town to retire but after only 5 years they had enough of town life and retirement and moved to an acreage North of Ponoka trading the hammer and saw for a backhoe and a dump truck. Reg spent his spare time doing the things he loved, welding, he was always fixing or building something for himself or a neighbor, visiting friends, and playing music keyboard or guitar. Retirement is something Reg never quite got a grip on and was still busy “puttering” in his shop until his passing. Reg was predeceased by his wife Hazel, and daughter Lorie, Reg is survived by his sons Rory and Ron (Eileen), 5 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Regs life will be held when health restrictions allow.
