Shirley and family my deepest condolences on Leesons passing. I’m Harry and Mary Rooks granddaughter Jennifer with the red hair you would see every summer in Fairmount back in the day. You and Leeson would be with your parents Steve and Elsie and I have fond memories of all of you. Leeson was a funny guy and his laughter is what I remember the most. I was sad to hear he passed. It is a difficult time and know that we are thinking of you and your family. Much love ❤️

It was a very sad day when I heard of Leeson’s passing. I never grew up in the community, so never knew Leeson until I got involved in the community (Hockey and Baseball). His passion for sports was reflected in every conversation I had with him. The Ruff family has been a huge supporter of the arena and various fund raising events that we held. Leeson and Shirley were always willing to get hockey items donated, autographed, etc from Lindy to auction at our events. Years ago, Leeson invited me to go along with him to Edmonton to the old ball park where I found out that there is not many people that he did not know. I felt like a kid being with him as he introduced me to a lot of people and the history behind them. I will miss the stories he shared with me and will be forever grateful to knowing him! My condolences to the Ruff family during this difficult time.

So very sorry for your loss, Shirley and family.
Sending prayers and hugs to you all. We have so many great memories starting in the early years of your marriage, when you lived next door, with our big garden of potatoes between us Petruch’s and your young family. Great memories always. Leeson has joined Mom (Louise) and Dad (Florian) and brother Frank Petruch in Heaven to make more memories.

Sincere sympathy to Shirley and the whole Ruff Clan
I just heard of Leeson’s passing this afternoon and was so saddened by the news. I got to know Leeson when Randy came to Leduc to play midget hockey in 1974? My Dad ran the arena in Leduc and could not drive to the out of town games so Leeson always made sure that I always rode with the Ruff Crew. Those trips were so much fun because Leeson had so many stories and was so generous. We ate a lot of small town burgers that year. Fast forward a few years and I am lucky enough to spend another hockey season with the Ruff family. I was privileged to coach Brent the second season that he played bantam hockey in Leduc. What an unforgettable year that was. Besides coaching the most gifted hockey player that I have ever known, I got to do it with the total support of Leeson and Shirley Ruff. As a young coach I had my doubters in the early going but Leeson was my biggest fan and I could tell that his influence settled down the parents enabling us to run things as we wanted and we had an amazing year. I learned a lot from Leeson just by watching his fun and gentle demeanor with people and that sparkle in his eye. I was so fortunate to have Leeson in my life. All the best to the Ruff Family. Sincerely Scott McLeod

Dear Shirley and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Leeson. I remember my very first day of school in Warburg, catching the bus so early in the morning, new to the area, no friends yet and first one on the bus that day. I was very nervous but he sat me down right behind him and in his big, gruff voice, kindly said that another little girl would be getting on right away and that she’d sit with me. I felt so much braver after that. I’m sure it was a small thing for him, but it was a big thing for 7 year old me and I’ve never forgotten that kindness; it was the first of many.

Ken and Carol Rempel

Lesson was a larger than life man with a booming voice and a little great sense of humour. He always enjoyed discussions on any topic but hockey in particular. He drove all our children to school on the school bus and from the kids comments was disciplined but fair in dealing with a bus full of noisy children. He will be missed.

Tammy Kneller

Mr. Ruff was friends with my dad. My dad once mentioned I was a huge Dominik Hasek fan. When Lindy was coaching the Sabres (and without being asked), Mr. Ruff got Hasek to autograph a hat for me. I still wear that hat to this day. It was probably the nicest thing someone has ever done for me. I’m so grateful I was able to thank him in person. My sympathies to the Ruff family.

Dave Rinas

Shirley and family Sincere condolences. Leeson left so many great memories. I will never forget his voice and the way it echoed threw all the arenas we played at. My deepest condolences to all of you. Our family ties to each other are endless. From next door neighbours, the parties we shared, watching ball, hockey and curling, to even sharing casino time. We loved very minute of it . Leeson held a very special place in my heart and will never be forgotten. I do know there is one hell of a crib game going on in heaven today. Who will win ? Dad or Leeson? I am sure we will hear. Love you all.

Elizabeth Kugyelka, Sidney B.C.

My condolences to you Shirley and your family.
Leeson was a man of strong character who contributed much to his community.I have many memories of the Leduc County School Bus Driver banquets we attended. John and Leeson enjoyed many cribbage games together after they retired from decades of driving. John has his cribbage board and cards and I am hopeful they find each other to play cribbage again.

Dear Shirley and Family. I am very sorry for the loss of a phenomenal man who was in my life at a very young age. His father Sam was my bus driver until he retired when Lesson took over and always treated each and everyone of his bus students with care and kindness and trust me we were a handful. It was great to have such a strong caring figure to look after us to get us home safe and sound everyday. I will always remember him fondly. He was and will be always fondly remembered. Prayers and Blessings to your family. May he rest at ease and peace.
