REIST, REUBEN ROY
Reuben Roy Reist was born November 1, 1929 in High River. Passed away March 22, 2016 in Viking, AB.
He was the oldest son of Joel & Vera Reist. Roy grew up in High River until his later teen years, then his family moved to Westward Ho. He worked delivering fuel and worked for several farmers in his young adulthood. Roy came to Tofield seeking work where he met Margaret Grace (Burkholder). They were married June 24, 1954, they were married for 61 years and had four children.
Roy is survived by his wife Grace; four children, 11 grandchildren and two great grandsons. Allen (Jo-Ann) Reist, Jocelyn (Paul) Denam, Amy (Lindsey, great grandsons: Canaan & Daegan) Lauber, and Joel Reist. Shirley (Sam) Best, Ryan Best and Shawn Best. Mervin (Kay) Reist, Danielle (Keith) Sayer, and Alison Reist. Willis Reist, Wilissa, Heidi, Katie and Levi Reist. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Spicer and Dorothy Fretz, and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Joel & Vera, sisters Mildred and Elsie, brother Lorne, brother-in-law’s Eldon Spicer and Lorne Fretz and nephew Marvin Spicer.
Roy accepted Christ as his Saviour at a young age in his local Church. He remained active at Salem Mennonite Church after his marriage to Grace. He served as Trustee, sound system operator, and enjoyed singing in a men’s quartet.
A Memorial Service was held Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at Salem Mennonite Church, Tofield, AB.
