Roy Douglas McLaughlin, 68, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away with his son and daughter by his side on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. It happened quickly and he did not suffer long – he was admitted to the hospital Monday February 13th with a preliminary diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and he never left. His children were with him the entire time. Born in Montreal, Quebec to Louis and Joan McLaughlin, he grew up in Oakville, Ontario and has lived in Sherwood Park, Alberta since 1993.
Roy had a talent for photography and the world around him was his inspiration. The mountains, lakes, parks and rivers that he photographed were brought to life in unique ways and shared with his friends, family and followers. Even though he is no longer with us, the moments he captured are now a part of eternity.
Roy was extremely loving and proud of his daughter, Sonia Watt O’Brien of Vancouver and her husband Seamus, and of his son, Andrew McLaughlin of Edmonton and his partner Kaitlyn. He is also survived by his brother Dave McLaughlin and his wife Jeanette of Brampton, Ontario and their children Tad, Tighe, and Tarra; his two sisters, Barb McLaughlin of Burlington, Ontario and Terri Ding and her husband Richard in Hong Kong; as well as his other loving family and friends.
There will be no service as requested by Roy and he will be remembered by loved ones among the very landscapes that he loved so dearly.
