On June 26, 2017 at the age of 87 years, John passed away suddenly following surgery at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, AB. He was born, raised and resided in Thorsby until 2006 when they moved to Leduc, AB. He drove school bus for the County of Leduc in Thorsby, AB for 34 years. He was an active member in the community of Thorsby for many years and was an avid curler and golfer.
John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth; two daughters, Phyllis (Marvin) Ostapchuk and Sherry (Cordell) Banks; 5 grandchildren, Jason Ostapchuk, Darren Ostapchuk, Charlene Ostapchuk (Fiance Michael Horsman), Michael (Brittany) Banks and Brian (Laryssa) Banks; 3 great-grandchildren, Ryley Ostapchuk, Macauley Banks and James Horsman; 3 sisters-in-law, Irene Pawlyk, Nadia Harrish and Millie Chubocha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother George and sister Marie in Czechoslovakia; his parents John and Marie Rovinsky; parents-in-law Fred and Mary Chubocha; sister-in-law Ann Kuzio; brothers-in-law Walter Kuzio, Edward Harrish and Edward Chubocha.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thorsby Community Centre, 4813 – 49 Street, Thorsby, AB with the Very Reverend Mykola Sawthenko officiating. Cremation followed.
