As a young fellow attending the Ponoka Pentecostal church, we knew and fellowshipped with Doris (Wentland), her siblings, and many of the Pohl families. Gus would sometimes visit and be guest speaker in the church. Then they went to Tanzania and we heard of their ministries in missions.
When Doreen & I went to serve in Kenya in 1966, Gus & Doris showed us how to efficiently pack our goods in three shipping barrels. It worked well!
May the Lord give you great confort. John 16:22 “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”

Great memories of The Wentlands being launched by the German Branch of the PAOC as pioneering Missionaries to Tanzania. We were blessed to have them serving as our Pastor at FGC in St Catharines and praying with us as we went on our first overseas assignment to Thailand. After our return, in 1976 they prayed with us when our 9 month old Cindy miraculously survived trauma. Pastor Wentland has now been promoted to his rewards in glory. We pray for God’s peace and comfort to be with Doris and the family.

Jim and I share our condolences with the family. Gus was a kindly man who shared his faith and life generously with others. I recall an occasion when Gus and Doris so warmly opened their home to the youth of the church. We have fond memories of their encouragement in ministry. Thankful for that input. May the God of all comfort be with you at this time. Jim & Marlene Raddatz

Their little prayer card sat in the pages of my German Bible for years while I grew up in Winnipeg and Chilliwack, reminding me to pray for Africa and the Wentlands. We are now serving full time in Asia, in part because of the call birthed in our hearts through Missys like Gus. Thank you for going, telling, and inspiring.

May God be with the family during this time of loss and celebration of life. I was greatly impacted as a child hearing the story of their call to the mission field – especially of the dream of Grandma Wentland that the bread needed to be shared and then that a child/children -(can’t remember the exact wording!) would be born when they travelled to the field.

I then so enjoyed their visits to our home and church, and they inspired me to dream big and serve with a large heart.

And then there was the visit to Windsor on my way to Newfoundland. I loved the home they were fixing up with the help of their daughter.

Blessings to you all!!
