Christmas Day, 1940 — May 30, 2015
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Raymonde Kenchington at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton on Saturday, May 30, 2015.
Raymonde will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 34 years, Mike Kenchington, her mother Salomé Bertrand, her brothers Dalma (Eileen), Bernard (Joyce), and Dan (Connie), her sister Huguette (Gunter), and all of her nieces and nephews. Raymonde was predeceased by her grandmother Marguerite Lebrasseur who was also her Godmother, her father Oswald Bertrand and her sisters Gisèle (Roger) and Marie.
Born in Fort Coulonge, Quebec, on December 25, 1940, Raymonde was the third child and first daughter for Oswald and Salome Bertrand. Despite being born on Christmas Day, Raymonde’s mother always made sure she celebrated her birthday. After many years living in Toronto, Raymonde moved to Edmonton where, in 1979 she met Mike at a car dealership in Fort Saskatchewan. She was picking up her new car, and he was doing a survey on the failing foundations of the building on behalf of Royal Insurance Company. At that time, Raymonde worked for Royal Insurance in sales and renewals and was in the manager’s office when Mike walked in and saw her smile. That smile, “free and from the heart,” has been with him for 37 years.
Raymonde was especially fond of her young nieces and nephews and made sure that there were always treats in the fridge when they visited their Aunt “Mone.” Although Mike, family and friends feel the loss of Raymonde, they take comfort in knowing that she is “Going Home,” as she always believed, and she is now at peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Serenity Funeral Service, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton, T5G 0X9. For immediate family and close friends, viewing will commence one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flow-ers, memorial donations can be made in Raymonde’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
