RAUSCHER (nee Chorney), Johanne Stephanie

It is with immense sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our quirky, beautiful, loving, caring, wife, mother, and grandmother Johanne who passed suddenly at home on September 4, 2020 at the age of 75.

Johanne is lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Erwin Rauscher (married 50 years), and their 3 children, Nick Rauscher (Katrina Ball), Matt Rauscher (Susan Rauscher), and Maria Merrick (Mark Merrick), niece Jaime Chorney (Matthew Collins), Debra Rauscher, and Joshua Sidor.

Johanne was born July 29, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario where she met Erwin in April 1969. After a brief engagement they were married August 8, 1970 and started their family together welcoming 2 sons into the world. They relocated to Edmonton, Alberta in 1979 and their daughter was born. Johanne dedicated her life to raising and caring for her and Erwin’s 3 children. She volunteered extensively with the Edmonton Public School Waldorf program at Parkallen school, and later at the Aurora Rudolph Steiner School. She had many entrepreneurial adventures with her late friend Chris Jones, including a gift basket service, a catering company, and endless craft sales. As well as being an avid knitter, she was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed watercolour painting, and loved to swim. Her eclectic love of music began early and continued through her life. She continually welcomed friends and family into the home and was happy to entertain, feed, and play cards late into the night.

She had a long battle with many health issues but always bounced back and was excited to welcome a new grandchild into the family in early 2021. Her wry sense of humor, warm hugs, and sparkling laugh is a huge loss and will always be missed by those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Johanne’s honour may be made directly to Alberta Cancer Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Canadian Diabetes Association.

Tribute wall - a place to share your memories and condolences

Barbara Eldridge (Wispinski)

Erwin, So very sorry to read about Johanne’s passing.
I have so many great memories of meals shared, still enjoy
many recipes. Learned how to make red cabbage which is
still a family request for holiday dinners.
Wear a shrug she knitted for me and always feel her hugs.
The boys may not remember me, Maria definitely, she was still so young, but please share my sadness at their mother’s loss.
Take care of yourselves as you travel this path and know that I think of you fondly.

Barb

I’m so sorry to read of Johanne’s death.
I think of her whenever i hear about Waldorf.
I’m the proud wearer of a great wooden pin which she gave me about 40 years ago, when she was “a slip of a girl”.
She was a little dynamo alright, and will be sorely missed on this plane.
but particularly by all of you, who m she loved so well.
take care at this sad time. love, marlyn wall
