It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Marilyn Poirier at the age of 80 years.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Barrie and her three sons: Todd (Joanne), Scott (Jo-Dean) and Darren (Megan), as well as by her grandsons Max and Hugo. Marilyn is survived by her brother Irv McGinnis (Ellie) of Edmonton; she is predeceased by her brother Gerry McGinnis (Debbie) of Victoria.
Marilyn was born in Saskatoon, SK to Malcolm and Johanne (nee Hagel) McGinnis. She married Barrie in 1961 and travelled extensively as the wife of a Canadian Armed Forces serviceman before eventually settling permanently in Edmonton. A loyal and dedicated person, Marilyn had a strong work ethic and worked for almost two decades after retirement as a part-time bookkeeper, right up until just days before her death.
Marilyn had an incredible mind, intelligent wit and was a touchtone for many in her life who relied on her practical advice and wisdom. Loved by all, she spread joy and happiness through her gentle and caring nature; never one to complain or burden others with her own problems, she was a great listener and had a kind heart. She will be greatly missed by the many family and friends not listed here who were touched by her spirit – a spirit that lives on and is watching over us today.
Marilyn chose to be cremated and have a celebration of life later this year.
In lieu of flowers Marilyn requested donations be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute:
