With a deep sense of sorrow, our family announces the loss of our son, brother and uncle (Peter) Jason van Dorp on May 7, 2018 at the age of 41.
Jay waged a long fight with COPD for many years as well as a lengthy and courageous rehabilitation after a double lung transplant in January of 2017. He died surrounded by the love of his family at the University of Alberta Hospital after a sudden illness. Jay was known for his love of art and music, the telling of a great pun and long conversations.
He is sadly missed by his mother Mary and his sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn, Mary Ann (Carmen), Sheila (Harry) and Melody, all of Ontario. Jay was a joking uncle to his nieces and nephews: Tonya (Josh), Shawn (Pam), Brent, Zach, Kari-Anne (Bryden), Kassia and Sarah as well as his great nieces and nephew.
Predeceased by his father, Tony. Also missed by his Calgary family: Linda, Pete, Coralee, Danny, Logan, Austin and Brandon. Loved by extended family and friends all across Canada and beyond.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of the University of Alberta Hospital, the 3C4 ICU staff, the Transplant Services Team for their excellent care of Jay over the years and during his latest illness.
Cremation has taken place.
A private family commemoration will take place at a later date. As his friends and relatives are spread across the country, we encourage those who know and loved him to have their own celebrations of Jay’s life to share stories or enjoy a toast to Jay.
Memorial donations in Jay’s honour can be made to the University of Alberta Transplant Institute, https://secure-ualberta.imodules.com the University of Alberta Hospital or the charity of your choice.
