PELECHATY, William

William (Bill) John Pelechaty
1948 – 2021
It is with great sadness and much love the family announces the passing of Bill on Sunday January 31, 2021.
Left to cherish eternal memories is Bill’s loving wife Charmaine (née Crowe); brothers George (Susan) and Dale, mother-in-law Erdean Crowe, sister-in-law Janet Dean Crowe, brothers-in-law Roddie (Jean) Crowe, Randy Crowe, Allan (Jane) Crowe, Terry Wayne (Denise) Crowe and Neil Gilroyed. Also, Bill’s nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and past co-workers.
Bill always enjoyed hearing “Hi Uncle Bill”, was a loyal friend to all and had a spirit of his own during his life.
Bill was predeceased by his father John and mother Kathleen, brother Donnie, sister June Toronchuk and sister Lorraine Gilroyed.
Born December 1, 1948, Bill lived most of his early years in Jasper Place (now Edmonton). He was employed by the City of Edmonton before venturing off in 1978 to Nova Scotia with his future wife Charmaine. Bill was a true Maritimer that embraced the culture and charm of the area for over 27 years.
Bill and Charmaine married in Springhill, Nova Scotia on July 18, 1987 and repeated their vows again in Edmonton on July 31, 1987 (Black Friday). They returned back to Edmonton in 2006 and both continued working here until their retirement a couple of years ago.
Bill was a talented athlete, excelling in a number of sports and enjoyed golfing with his family and friends. There is a lifetime of good times growing up in Jasper Place, crazy parties and family get togethers that are memories now, which we will embrace when we reflect back on Bill’s life.
Bill and Charmaine enjoyed travelling to distant places over the years and we all enjoyed the stories of the adventures encountered. They were able to enjoy a couple of winters in Mexico before Bill’s cancer came back and eventually took his life.
Bill was loved more than he ever knew and our hearts and thoughts will be with him for ever and ever.
Cremation has taken place and Bill will be taken back to Nova Scotia for his final resting place.
Charmaine would like to sincerely thank Dr. Leah Johnson-Coyle who provided compassion and assistance for Bill during his final weeks at home and the Norwood Hospice during his short stay there.
We are planning a memorial and celebration of Bill’s life to take place in the summer of 2021.
If family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of their choice.
When your thoughts do turn to me
Know that I would not have you cry
But live for me and laugh for me
When you are happy, so am I
