PANIAK, Christopher Eugene

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our cherished father, brother, son, uncle, and friend to many, Chris Paniak on December 3rd, 2020 at the age of 57.

Chris’ memory will live on through his spouse of 33 years Arlene Paniak (Ewoniak) and three children Sarah, Lucas, and Ava; mother Jean; siblings Shirley (in-law), Valerie (Robert) Dunn, Vincent (Shirley) Paniak, and Marilyn (Drew) Brimacombe; nieces Lisa, Cariann, Amanda, Vanessa, Jacqueline, and Samantha; nephews Lori, Tristan, Terrill, Jason, Aaron, Curtis, and Justin; great friend Martin Mrazik, among others. Chris was predeceased by his father Frederick and brother Lawrence.

Chris was a well-known neuropsychologist in the Edmonton area. He helped the lives of many whom he saw while working at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon (1989-91); the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton (1991-2015); and through Paniak Psychological Services over many years.

Chris loved playing sports such as hockey, slo-pitch, and football; listening to and discovering new music and was a regular at the Edmonton Folk Fest; absorbing new literature through reading numerous biographies; going on family vacations to Hawaii and the Rocky Mountains; and spending quality time with his many pet cats over the years.

Chris was known for his goofy sense of humour, eagerness to help others, and dedication to learning more about the world. These passions, among many others, will continue to inspire the lives of those he touched during his time with us.

A friend

My condolences to Ava, Lucas, and Sarah.

Chris and I have been out of touch for the last few months, I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He helped me in numerous ways and always lent a shoulder and an ear when I needed one.

People make mistakes and sometimes must battle their own demons, but please know that he loved you deeply and spoke of you often. He was proud of all three of you, he never missed a chance to speak about you. He worried about you. He boasted about your accomplishments. You were the most important thing in his life. Be great, be happy, be healthy.
