ONYSCHUK, Jody Marie

Jody Marie Onyschuk (née Colville) passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind the loves of her life, Garry and their children Alyssa and Dawson. Also left to mourn are her sister Crystal (Brian Dewar) Colville, brother Jay (Jackie) Colville, parents-in-love Andy and Sharon Onyschuk, brother-in-love Ken (Juanita) Onyschuk, sister-in-love Jacquelyn Kulsa-Onyschuk, nephews Justin (Jenna), Dylan, Braden, Logan and niece Jayda, as well as numerous other family and friends.

Jody was raised a city girl but fell in love with a country boy. There was nothing she wouldn’t try and in the end nothing she didn’t excel at. Together, she and Garry built a beautiful life on the acreage. Everyone was welcome, and the parties, pig roasts and bonfires were legendary.

Jody was a generous friend, constantly sharing herself and her talents. She was always there with a kind word or a listening ear, and her friendships were long and deep. During the pandemic, Jody started keeping chickens and friends and family loved receiving eggs as gifts, along with the spoils of her garden.

More than anything, Jody was an exceptional mother. Her children were her world. She loved them equally but separately, recognizing their unique gifts. There is so much of her in them – in Alyssa’s love of animals, Dawson’s quiet strength and in them both, her kind and giving heart. Even during the challenges of Jody’s last weeks, her kids worried for and were checking on the rest of the family.

Jody was a light that illuminated the lives of everyone who knew her. While we mourn her loss, we know that her light will burn in our memories of her smile, her laugh and her strength forever.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital for their care, and for supporting our family. A memorial service may be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in support of the Stollery RAH NICU, located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Brenda, Tevis, Taylor & Hayley

Jody, I wasn’t among your closest friends but I still considered you a friend. I enjoyed our short (or not so short) chats when we saw each other at the school or were dropping off kids to play dates, sleepovers, and birthday parties. Taylor loved hanging out with you and your family. Thank you for welcoming her into your lives and treating her like she was one of your own. You were like an extra mom to her. Thank you for also welcoming Hayley and encouraging her to play with the big kids when we came to pick Taylor up. Your family was one of the few that Hayley liked to visit even though it wasn’t “her friends”. We will all miss you dearly.

The many fun years we shared growing up made me the person I am today because of you. The unstoppable laughter, the shinnanigans, the cries and chats…… they are memories I hold dear to my heart. You truly had everyone’s best interest at heart your whole life. You were full of compassion and love for everyone and everything around you. The softness in your voice, the patience you portrayed, and the value of life You found in every living creature is something that everyone who knew you will hold dear to their hearts. You will be greatly missed by many Jody. Thank you for the many years of my life that we spent together. I will hold all of my memories close to my heart….

So sorry to hear of Jody’s passing. We have fond memories of days at the acreage with Jody, first quad rides, first horse rides and first pig rides and first getting stuck in bogs. Jody was always so welcoming and friendly, she’ll be missed. Hugs from all of us to you and your family.

My deepest condolences to Garry, Dawson and Alyssa. I’ve known Jody for 5 years and our sessions every 2 weeks consisted of our chats about you, her family. She would share her love of the farm. She was so proud of you kids and all your accomplishments. Her joy was her family and the time she spent with the three of you. Hang on to each other for strength.
Goodbye my friend.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to Garry, Dawson, Alyssa and family. I’ve known Jody for around 11 years and through that time and all our sessions, we always talked about you all, and how proud of the amazing people her children were turning into.

Dearest Jody, you will be so deeply missed, I will always remember our chats, that same playlist that was on repeat in your massage room and your love and passion for what you do. No one will ever be able to hold a flame to your magical hands. I will never forget you.
