It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Ron Olstad after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron passed away September 7, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

Ron was born in Vermillion, AB in June 1959 and grew up in the Claysmore area.  He was the youngest of 5 siblings born from Allan and Violet Olstad.

In his younger years, his passion was hockey. Whether it was on a rink or a pond, he always had skates on. He excelled at the sport playing in tournaments across Alberta and other provinces and even playing in the Winter Games. He began a career in carpentry, which spanned over 30 years.

He met the love of his life Joan in 1980 and they were later married in 1982. Together they had two children; Jesse born in 1985 and Lindsey in 1990.

Throughout the years the family enjoyed camping,  fishing,  going to the races and spending time with family and friends.  He had a love for golf, playing poker, the oilers, 80s rock music and a cold glass of Budweiser or one of his world famous Ceasars. Family was his biggest joy in life whether it was a shared meal , watching the kids play their sports or helping them fix something.  He always enjoyed spending time with them and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. Ron and Joan’s family grew bigger when they welcomed their daughter-in-law Blaise into the picture and their two beloved grandchildren Freya and Lincoln.

Ron will forever be remembered by his loving wife Joan and their children Jesse (Blaise), Lindsey and two grandchildren Freya and Lincoln.  He is survived by his oldest sisters Sandra Olstad, Donna (David) Drysdale, Ken (Yasmin) Olstad, Doug (Connie) Olstad and many nephews and nieces. Ron was predeceased by his parents Allan and Violet Olstad, infant daughter Carley and brother in law Tim McLaughlin, and father in law Patrick McLaughlin.

There will be a private ceremony at the families request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.

When you walked into the Olstad home, there Ron sat at the head of the table. We’d hugged and then would sit down wherever, but Ron always sat in that chair and laughed and kidded us etc. He always made us feel welcome and I loved arriving for Friday nite pizza. He never tired of our family stories or complaints. He must of heard lots of repeats but always listened. He was the one who always kept it calm. He was our family’s anchor!
We will miss you and your big heart
