Norman was born on September 22, 1927 in the old log house on the family farm near Millet, Alberta. He was the second of eight children born to Herman and Bertha Kern.
Norman married Junice Traster on October 22, 1952. They lived in Camrose, Alberta until the spring of 1955 when they moved back to Millet onto the family farm where they lived until 2005, when they moved into the town of Millet.
Norman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, June, and his sons: Greg (Maggie) and their children, Nicholas and Alanna of Calgary, Alberta; Graham (Miriam) of Bismarck, North Dakota and their children, Shawna (Derek) & Mason Kost of Bismarck, ND, Mark of Bismarck, ND, and Shannon (Luke) Beckermann of Fargo, ND; and Jeff (Denise) and their children, Emma and Ben of Millet, Alberta; as well as his siblings, Bernice, Eleanor, Milton, Delvera, Marie, Carrie and their spouses, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Norman was predeceased by his parents Herman and Bertha, and his brother Edwin.
