NELSON, David Blair

DAVID BLAIR NELSON

1959  – 2021

The family of Dave Nelson sadly announces his passing on April 12, 2021.

Dave was predeceased by his father Sidney in 2002.

Dave leaves to mourn Mother Violet and his siblings: Donald, Keith and Bernie, Karen, Debbie and Rheal, Roy, Michelle and Doug and Michael, along with their families.  He was Uncle Dave to ten and Great Uncle Dave to seventeen little ones.

From Beaverlodge to Grande Prairie onto Hay River then Inuvik, the places life took the family, little mischievous David charmed with his grin.  A bright student, he graduated high school at ABJ in Sherwood Park, where he collected many very special lifetime friends. Fort McMurray was next on the tour, where influenced by brother Don, Dave pursued and became a Journeyman Pipefitter joining the UA local 488 and soon after, brother Mike followed along their path and they became the Brotherhood of the Brotherhood. Dave was so proud!  Red Deer was home for a while, but Dave spent much of his working years in the camp life of the many mega projects of Alberta’s Tar Sands, growing his list of great friendships he treasured.  His Alberta Beach home became his retirement home, where, with his roommate brothers Roy and Mike crafted the most beautiful steel fire pit, where we gathered around to share a cold one and laugh and cry and LOVE.  A generous, gentle soul with a huge heart, our David loved his family.

Recently, for our dear Mom’s 90th Birthday, Dave presented her with the most beautiful cedar carving he commissioned from his Artist friend on Vancouver Island, depicting a family of beavers.  Mom, Dad and eight beaver kids totem style on a 4 ft plaque.  We will treasure this very thoughtful tribute to our family.

We all remember that whistle with the hang loose fist pump that the kids had so much fun trying to recreate.  Every time you heard it, you knew there was something special going on, like the celebration of every ringer he witnessed.  If you’ve heard it you know, it was his signature, part of his uniqueness.  So, when you hear the sound of a beer cracking open, think of Dave, that was his other signature sound.  We love you David.

Peace Out Bro!  You’re Free!
