It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Monika Parlow on July 18, 2013 in Leduc, Alberta, at the age of 68, due to Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Monika Irmgard Heiselbetz on June 7, 1945, in Schnellin, Germany, the only child of Irmgard and Guenther Heiselbetz. Monika immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1966 and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During her time in Manitoba, Monika worked as a copy writer for Winnipeg’s German-language newspaper, the Kanada Kurier. After moving to Leduc with her family in 1973, Monika worked for the Black Gold Regional School District, primarily in the library at Corinthia Park School. Monika is survived by her children Mike (Kelly), Janet (Lee) and grandchildren Mackenzie, Griffin, Adam and Tyler. A private memorial service is planned and the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1 in lieu of flowers.
