Megan Rae MacDonald, resident of Drayton Valley, AB, passed away suddenly early Saturday, September 12, 2015 near Devon, AB. Megan was born April 5, 1991 in High River, Alberta to Jody Dersch and Robert MacDonald. In her early years Megan lived in Longview, AB; Grassy Plains, BC; and Fort Macleod, AB. After high school Megan became a professional cowgirl working in feedlots near Picture Butte and a ranch in Drayton Valley. Deciding to try her hand in the oil field industry Megan began working for Weatherford where she excelled due to her determination and strong work ethic. Megan will forever be remembered for her extraordinary horsemanship, her love for her dogs and cows, as well as various other animals (goats, cats, pigs, etc.). Her vibrant smile and kind, caring heart will be missed by everyone who knew her. Fond memories of Megan will always include her high school wrestling career, her blunt “anything-goes” sense of humour, and eagerness to take everyone out on a wagon ride with her team of horses. Megan is survived by her mother Jody and father Robert (and Monika); four sisters, Amanda, Taylor, Jessica, and Morgan; Grandparents, Harvey Dersch and Ruth MacDonald as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Megan is predeceased by grandparents, Collette Dersch and Joe MacDonald and cousin, Kelli Claypool-Robertson. Megan’s beautiful life will be celebrated at Whitby Community Hall on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. In honour of Megan, memorial contributions may be made directly to Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association, RR 8-24-6, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4P4.

I was sad to hear of Megan’s passing. It was a honor to have been one of Megan’s teachers and coaches. Megan showed great passion for the things she loved to do. I remember the effort she put into learning the art of wrestling. Megan was an honest person who could look at herself and see the good things in an non prideful way and at the same time see the things she wanted to improve on.This honesty made it a pleasure to teach and coach Megan. Besides being honest Megan was a lot of fun and she helped contribute to many good times with her teammates and friends. Megan I will miss and my heart and prayers reach out to her family in this time of loss.

Megan’s Family and Friends:
We had known Megan for a very short time – perhaps a bit more then a year.
We met her when the filly was born in the winter – Ice such a pretty filly.
After a bit – perhaps Ice was 4 weeks old she and Baby came to stay at our farm.
Ratty and beat up but that was a strong filly – like Megan – strong.
I have many photos of Baby and Ice as we watched the healing and loving from horse to human.
Megan was here every day sometimes twice a day to tend the Mare and the filly. Some days Megan had time to stop in for tea and a chat.
Such a loving caring person. Full of life and strength.
She will be missed by all her friends and family. She will be in your hearts forever.
May you heal in gentle peacefulness.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
