Megan Kathleen Petz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful Megan Kathleen Petz (Hasinoff) on October 14th, 2015 at the tender young age of 28.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband and best friend Nicolas, mother Darlene Hasinoff, brother Sean (Beverley) Hasinoff, sister Maureen Hasinoff, father Colin Hasinoff, mother and father in-law Barb and Rob Petz, brother in-law Alex Petz, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Megan is predeceased by a dear and special family friend Tim Beechey and both sets of grandparents, John and Florence Eyben and Dave and Mary Agnes Hasinoff.

Megan was born in St. Albert, Alberta on October 17, 1986. A beautiful person through and through Megan loved many during her short time and she was loved right back by all who knew her. Passionate and with a zest for life, Megan’s smile would light up a room and her positive outlook was infectious.

Her passions in life were her family, friends, co-workers and students at John A McDougall Elementary School. Megan had always desired to work with children and was thrilled when she was able to realize this dream by becoming a teacher and being given the opportunity to shape the minds of her young students.

Megan’s hobbies and interests always revolved around other people. A huge supporter of her husband, Nicolas, she rarely missed a lacrosse game and has encouraged and supported him to follow his dream of becoming a Police Officer. Yoga, working out, going for a walk or sharing a fabulous glass of red wine always involved a friend or two (or more).

Nicolas and the family would like to extend their extreme thanks and gratitude to all of the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 4A4 Neurology Intensive Care Unit and 4A2 Neurology Unit. Megan received the best possible care during her stay and everything possible was done to try and save her.

For those that wish to say their good-byes to Megan, there will be a viewing on Monday October 19th, 2015 from 6-9 pm at Serenity Funeral Services, 5311 91 Street. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday October 21, 2015 from 6-9 pm at Delwood Community Center, 7515 Delwood Road. There will be an organized presentation from family and friends from 6:30-7:00 and then others will be welcomed to share their stories about Megan.

In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation or S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance. There will be an opportunity to order a special “Megan Angel” through a Circle of Angels (a Community Megan Supported) at her Celebration of Life with all proceeds being donated to both the above mentioned charities.

Dear Nick…..
Your life collapsed the day you said goodbye,
Your badly broken heart you could not pacify.
Deep inside, her spirit will be in your everyday
Her haven is now in your heart, never far away
All the passion you have shared will still flourish
As long as with your love, her soul you nourish
You will not remember only that she has gone,
But also the good memories to help you live
I share the pain of your loss….
Gerard Vachon.

Sweet beautiful Megan….I first met you at the clinic in Sherwood Park. Your beautiful smile and helpful personality drew me in. I also knew your mom and years later would end up working with her. You & your sister stepped in for some of the games and I new then fans were in great hands. You were & always will be a part of the Edmonton Eskimo family. Then came A Circle of Angels where we put together all the little pieces creating memorable angels for those who needed guidance or for those who had passed. No one knew that weeks / days later we would be mourning the loss of your young life. My heart is heavy and words are few. Megan you left your footprint on all that had the pleasure of knowing you. You will be missed by so many. May your precious soul Rest in Peace and know your memories will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers of strength, comfort & healing are with your entire family. God be with them all

Megan and I met a couple of years ago. I was her mentoring teacher as she completed the final part of her teaching studies. She was energetic, full of great ideas and energy. She had a great sense of humor and intuition when teaching children. Megan was a beautiful person, inside and out. She will be greatly missed.

We first met Megan when Nick had brought her out camping in Barrhead to hang with his parents Barb and Rob. At first we thought Megan was shy but then again she had just met the camping family who were pretty much all twice her age. Who sat around the campfire sharing stories and solving world problems and yes after a couple of drinks the stories got more interesting and problem solving easier. Megan quickly became a welcome part of the camping family and shared many of her stories , accomplishments and problem solving skills around the campfire.
And no not shy.
You left us way too soon Megan. You will be missed, however will always remain in our hearts.

I met Megan in University around 2006. My friends and I started to hang out with the same group of people Megan hung out with. Megan was always so nice and welcoming. She didn’t resent our presence with her friends. She was kind and I remember many fun nights with her present at the bar on pub crawls, times spent at the legion, at the University, and other fun events. I am sorry for her loss and pain that is felt by her husband, family, and friends. My prayers are with you.
