Mary Baros (nee Maxfield) passed away peacefully, just short of her 92nd birthday, and two years after losing her dear husband, George. Mary was born in Nottingham, England and later moved to Sheffield. She met and married, George, and together with their first daughter, immigrated to Edmonton in 1958. Mary spent many rewarding years as an RN in England and later in Edmonton, working at the Royal Alexandra and University of Alberta Hospitals. Mary was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church, a Brownie leader, and camp nurse and gave willingly of her time and many talents to the church, schools and other volunteer organizations. Mary was an avid reader, walker, seamstress, and cook. People who knew her enjoyed her quiet dignity, dry sense of humour, and positive outlook on life. Mary will be greatly missed by her three daughters and their husbands: Marija and Timothy Stonhouse, Ana and Giuseppe Filippo Imbalzano, Petra and Brian Barker; and by her grandchildren: Matthew, Benjamin and Danica Stonhouse, Danica’s fiance Avery Knarr and Trivun and Madeline Barker. Mary also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews and her dear sister-in-law, Margaret. She was predeceased by sisters Dorothy, Joan and Barbara, brothers Cyril, Reg and Percy and her loving mother, Lily.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at St. Thomas Health Centre who went above and beyond for the 2 and a half years Mary has lived there. Also, the staff in the rehab unit at the General Hospital who cared for her during her three month stay.
A visitation will be held from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311 – 91 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Church, 11526 – 76 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta.
